Our objective is to build and maintain a thriving community of junior golfers at the Club by means of:
- an active recruitment programme
- a programme of activities aimed at retention
- a comprehensive competition programme to accommodate all stages of development
- a well-supported and successful junior team
- a comprehension programme of tuition and development using the Junior Passport scheme all operated within a safe and friendly environment supported by sound Child Protection Policies and Procedures.
A Junior Committee oversees all aspects of Junior Golf including internal competitions, coaching, the overall organisation of the junior teams and liaison with external golf organisations.
The next step after Junior Membership is to become an ASSOCIATE MEMBER which is available for those aged 18 to 20 at the start of the membership year.
The club uses a number of stages on the main course to allow cubs and juniors to progress from being a beginner up to achieving a 18 hole competition handicap. Normally the stages are:
- 7 Holes Red/Yellow Tees
- 9 Holes Red/Yellow Tees
- 14 Holes Red/Yellow Tees
- 18 Holes off Yellow or White Tees (Red Tees for Girls)
We do have the option to vary this by playing fewer holes for beginners until they feel confident to play 7 holes.
Once a junior is able to play 7 holes, 3 cards can be submitted to the Junior Organiser for a handicap. The handicap will be a club handicap and will be maintained and updated as the junior progresses through 9 and 14 holes.
When a Junior is able to play 18 holes from white, yellow or red tees and has a reasonable knowledge of the Rules of Golf, 3 cards can be submitted under the rules of the WHS handicap system.
The club organises a number of competitions spread over the year from spring until autumn. Competitions are normally run on Sunday afternoons with some extra competitions during school holidays. The competitions will be a mixture of Major Trophy competitions, Medals and Stablefords with occasional Texas Scrambles and Adult & Junior competitions. In addition there are annual competitions with the Ladies and Seniors.
At the end of the season there is an Awards Evening where the major trophies and other awards are presented. There is also a Junior of the Year award based on the number of competitions entered and the results achieved
Chorley Golf Club is a member of the Bolton Golf Association (BGA) which currently has 13 clubs with 23 junior teams playing in their leagues.
Our Juniors play in their Premier (A) and Development (B) Leagues.
The BGA also runs a development programme and a number of competitions for Juniors including a Junior Championship.
Coaching Sessions will be provided regularly during school holidays and on summer evenings. These are available to all Junior members; the sessions are subsidised by the Club but parents will be expected to make a contribution to the cost.
Sessions explaining the Rules of Golf will also be provided.
